Saint Saens Requiem: Poulenc Organ Concerto: Pieces by Cecilia McDowall and Fauré

Nottingham Bach Choir performed in Southwell Minster on Saturday 22 November 2025 for a poignant concert marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War.

Such a special occasion. Poetry was read by the Cathedral's Canon Missioner Amanda Lees, interwoven with music of remembrance. Cecilia McDowall's radiant Ave maris stella and Fauré's much-loved Cantique de Jean Racine framed Poulenc's dramatic Organ Concerto performed by former Minster organ scholar Edward Turner. At the heart of the evening was Camille Saint-Saëns' rarely heard yet profoundly moving Requiem - a work of drama, tenderness and consolation, and an unforgettable centrepiece to this reflection in words and music.
